From Wikipedia

Plan 9 from Outer Space is a 1959 Ed Wood science fiction horror movie. It was originally titled Grave Robbers from Outer Space, but it was renamed because that title was considered to be “sacrilegious” by its religious founders. It is widely regarded as one of the worst movies ever made. The movie earned Wood a post-humous Golden Turkey Award.

The Characters
Ghoul Man - Bela Lugosi! Old fellow killed when he walks into traffic, but then resurrected.
Jeff Trent - Civilian airline pilot whose home is next to the graveyard.
Paula Trent - Jeff’s wife, and that’s all I have to say about her.
Vampire Girl - Vampira! Wife of the Ghoul Man while living, she has some really long claws.
Inspector Clay - Tor! Heavyset policeman who is killed by Vampire Girl then resurrected.
Eros - Highly advanced alien, his greatest achievement is Plan 9… …that and throwing rocks at the monolith.
Tanna - Eros’ assistant, not very good at this “alien” stuff.
Colonel Edwards - Army officer in charge of operations against the flying saucers.
Patrolman Kelton - Policeman, he keeps getting beat up.

The Plot
Often billed as the worst movie ever made, and not entirely undeserving of the title, this is a masterpiece of Ed Wood’s making. Bela Lugosi was cast in the role of “Ghoul Man” but passed away before filming really started. So what happens? The producer’s wife’s chiropractor (Mr. Reynold’s was the executive producer) takes over as “Ghoul Man” and holds his cape in front of his face THE ENTIRE MOVIE. Add to this numerous plot inconsistencies, horrid acting, and masses of stock footage - some of which we see several times and you have a terrible but funny movie. A highly advanced alien culture is determined to destroy Earth before our scientists discover a bomb which will explode sunlight, the description Eros gives of this is quite funny. In order to destroy our world, of several billion people, they raise three zombies from the dead. I have to tell you that despite this film’s horrid nature, I dearly love it for being so bad.

A detailed list of the film’s mistakes can be found here.

  2. I’d recommend using QuickTime or VLC player to play MPEG4.
You need QuickTime version 6 or later, update here, or get VLC player here.

  5. Wtf? Archive.org has apparently taken down Plan 9 with only

“The item is not available due to issues with the item’s content.”

    offered as an explanation.

Their forums have also seemed to have vanished, so I can’t say if there was any discussion around it prior to the take down.

Publicdomaintorrents has also apparently taken down the movie. Is there an issue with this movie’s public domain status? I can’t find any word about it at all.

If someone can clear this up and/or provide links to archive.org’s original files it would be great.
