  3. Way cool! Isn’t there a Virtual Light audiobook out there?

  4. Thanks for posting. I got mine from Audiogalaxy a few years back when Gibson made it known that, though it was out of print, it could still be downloaded from that much missed ( snniiiff !) site. In response to the previous post by jerryprism, I purchased Virtual Light in both versions, an abridged version narrated by Peter (Robocop) Weller and the unabridged, narrated by Frank Mueller. The latter was in the more expensive Library edition but was worth the forty bucks. I also have Idoru and Pattern Recognition, and that appears to be all that is available in the format. They are all available to you if you want them for posting. You guys are great!!

  12. I bought a hard copy on Amazon on April and had the e-text on my iPod, but it is great to have the downloadable audiobook!

I made an XML file if anyone wants to download the book as a podcast using iTunes or any RSS reader. It’s a great alternative! I’m also working on making it bookmarkable.

Does anyone know the name of U2’s song?

    the url is http://www.eztigma.tk/neuromancer.xml

    enjoy! ^.^

  13. Great! I bought this about 8 or 9 years ago, but have misplaced one of the tapes.

I loved Gibson’s rendition of the Dixie Flatline.

I loaned the tapes to a pair of friends for a long drive they were taking, but they didn’t really like his way of speaking. I don’t know…it grew on me once I listened to it for a while.

  15. […] There must have existed an audiobook version of Neuromancer, from 1994. But where can I get it? That’s one of the problems we face today. Lots of stuff gets lost because companies don’t keep on publishing their copyrighted material. If you don’t publish something anymore, then I think you should make it available as a free download :) . That way nothing ever gets lost. Seems like I found it: Neuromancer Audiobook Download. Obviously Gibson is the guy who thinks of such things. Tags audio, audiobook, neuromancer, gibson, william gibson […]

  16. Dear Sir,

I’m creating a radio program, and there is a line in the Neuromancer audio which I’d like to use. Problem is I don’t own a tape deck or else I could order a used copy of the tapes. I was wondering if you could resample a portion of the tape for me at maximum quality (44.1/16 or higher). The portion I need is a few minutes into Tape 1, Side 1 of the Neuromancer audio:

“Night City was like an experiment in Social Darwinism conducted by a bored researcher who kept one thumb permanently glued to the fast forward button.”

Ideally include a bit of the preceding sentence and following sentence would allow me the best editing flexibility.

I’d be very grateful if you could help out!

  20. Don’t know about the legal issues with time warner, but if people are interested, Time Warner hired me to make that audio production of Neuromancer and I have the CDs and might had backups of the original multi-track.

Since it’s out of print, is william giving the OK to let it out?

    Best,

    Mixer

    Comment by Mixer — put November 30, 2007 @ 1:29 am

  21. Mixer! It’s great that you posted here. I’m a publisher working on a series of audio tours for Tokyo. In one of the tours I’m planning to mix in a line from this Neuromancer audio book. I bought the tapes but my studio is all digital and I don’t have a cassette deck anymore, so I have to buy or rent one in order to sample them. There is this ONE line that I want. It’s within the first tapes first 3 minutes I think. It’s the line, “Night City was like a deranged experiment in social Darwinism, designed by a bored researcher who kept one thumb permanently on the fastforward button”

Could you possibly provide me with the BEST quality recording you have of that? 44.1 16 would work, 48/24 or better would be wonderful.

I can create a FTP drop for you. Also I can send you a copy of the product once it’s done. He’s a teaser site:

  25. Is this an abridged version?

I’m listening to Gibson read it while trying to follow along with the linked etext version and I’m finding that he’s skipping over some parts (mostly between dialogue).

  33. The praise here obviously came from people who hadn’t listened before commenting. The download is flawed an unlistenable. The dialogue jumps regularly, mid sentence, sometimes missing out large portions of text. I recommend not downloading. At least listen to the first tape if you’re unsure of this being the case.

    Sorry guys :(

    Comment by Matthew — put July 11, 2009 @ 8:52 pm

  34. First, thanks so much to Dr Grey for making this available, those tapes cost an OUTRAGEOUS amount to buy used, if you can find them, and who knows what kind of shape they’d be in. And I know others like myself steer away from file sharing networks, because they’re hotbeds of malware.
For anyone else who finds this, these are the same exact files found at:
    http://www.bearcave.com/bookrev/neuromancer/neuromancer_audio.html
Also wanted to clarify the problem brought up by Matthew… They seem to play well/tolerable (for the most part) on my T41 where I DL’d them, but when I put them on an mp3 cd it sounds like a scratched up vinyl record, popping and skipping over words. Burning on the slowest speed possible seemed to have marginally better results but still not great. Have not tried transferring to mp3 player yet, but I suspect any transferring will reduce quality.
Still thrilled to have this, and dealing with the poor quality to hear one of the greatest books ever written, read by Gibson himself.
Thinking about throwing the mp3s in audacity and doing some tweaking to fix quality, If any success is had I will post back.
Also, only listened to the first minute or 2, but found what I THINK is the unabridged version read by Arthur Addison:

  35. Hi, I’m happy to see this up. I would like to adapt this to the screen soon. It will be nice to see how it sounds.

Any idea where to find the version by BBC?

  36. I own the original tapes read by Gibson. Unabridged. Mint Condition. Never played.
