Best known as the founder of “deconstruction”, Derrida’s work has radically influenced the fields of literature, art, architecture, fashion, music and critical theory, inalterably marking the intellectual landscape of the 20th and 21st centuries. Bursting onto the academic scene in 1967 with the simultaneous publication of major philosophical works (OF GRAMMATOLOGY, WRITING AND DIFFERANCE, SPEECH AND PHENOMENA), Derrida’s writing forged an indelible critique of Western metaphysics and how it affects and structures both language and thought. Directed by the acclaimed documentary filmmaker Kirby Dick (SICK) and Amy Ziering Kofman (a former student), DERRIDA premiered to standing room only crowds and rave reviews at this year’s Sundance Film Festival before playing in film festivals throughout the world. Its bold visual style, mesmerizing score by Oscar-winning composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, and novel editorial approach create a rich, lively cinematic experience - one that at once questions, provokes, and entertains. The most ambitious cinematic project ever undertaken with a world class philosopher, DERRIDA is a fascinating portrait of the life and legacy of one of the greatest and most influential intellectual icons of our time.

Deconstruction in a Nutshell: A Conversation with Jacques Derrida by John D. Caputo

Responding to questions put to him at a Roundtable held at Villanova University in 1994, Jacques Derrida leads the reader through an illuminating discussion of the central themes of deconstruction. Speaking in English and extemporaneously, Derrida takes up with clarity and eloquence such topics as the task of philosophy, the Greeks, justice, responsibility, the gift, community, the distinction between the messianic and the concrete messianisms, and his interpretation of James Joyce. Derrida convincingly refutes the charges of relativism and nihilism that are often leveled at deconstruction by its critics, and sets forth the profoundly affirmative ethico-political thrust of this work. The Roundtable is annotated by John D. Caputo, the David R. Cook Professor of Philosophy at Villanova University, who has supplied cross-references to Derrida’s writings, where the reader may find further discussion on these topics. Professor Caputo has also supplied a commentary which elaborates the principal issues raised in the Roundtable.
An ideal volume for students approaching Derrida for the first time, Deconstruction in a Nutshell will prove instructive and illuminating as well for those already familiar with Derrida’s work.

[…] I then had a dash to the library for my theory seminar, where we watched Derrida the Movie (torrent available here). It’s a very different film to the Fathy one, which I found harder to follow. Maybe that’s because I’d read less Derrida then. […]

hi
i found your website some time back and i was thrilled to find the movie on Derrida, that i’ve been searching for a while now.
However, i just finished downloading it thru Bitcomet, and i can’t seem to open the file now. rather, i downloaded both the files u’ve listed on this page, and both aren’t opening. it still maintains the files with the icons of unfinished downloads.
i tried to right-click and open it with winzip several times, but it just does not read it, and right-clicking and trying to open it with the client doesn’t work either.
Please help..i’m dying to see the movie :*(
